Impact Statement
KS2 Enrichment Days
In 2018, HCS was transformed to the school of wizardry and over 2 days welcomed over 300 young wizard recruits. They enjoyed a number of challenging activities including science workshops in potion making, understanding transfiguration with the head of Psychology, Quidditch matches and discovered the wizarding world of spells through their linguistic roots. Feedback from both pupils, visiting school staff and parents was warmly received and we are working on the 2019 event to accommodate the increased demand on previous years.
KS2 Stem in Action
The Humber Stem in Action event did not happen in 2017 due to lack of funding. HCS provided their facilities free of charge to host the two day event. 375 Year 5 pupils from Hull and East Riding state primary schools attended each day to join in with 5 stem workshops. There was a choice of 16 workshop facilitators including BAE Systems, CSI schools and KCOM. The event will be supported by HCS in 2019 and beyond.
KS4 Language Conference
In November we hosted our second G&T language conference. A number of high profile business including Smith and Nephew and government agencies provided seminars to showcase how languages can open up opportunity and diversity in career pathways. The event was fully booked with 40 students from local state schools joining our own Year 10 students.
KS5 partnership with Ganton School
Our Sixth Form community has for several years supported pupils at Ganton Primary School, a local special needs school, through their own personal development programme. In 2018, 20 Sixth Form pupils have assisted pupils at Ganton School on a weekly basis.
