Impact Statement

Swimming: We host an annual swim gala as part of a scheme called Bohunt Schools Partnership - run by the local state secondary school-Bohunt. The gala is held on one afternoon only and 4-5 local state schools participate. All organisation and communication with participating schools is handled by the organiser - Bohunt. We [provide two swim teachers to act as Lifeguards. We charge a nominal fee to cover pool hire and staffing costs. The gala provides local children who wouldn't normally have the opportunity , to take part in a competitive swimming event. We are involved in TESLA, a Teaching Schools Alliance based at Bohunt School. As part of this we run training sessions (“Pastoral care in the Boarding School Environment” and “Setting the Tone”) for Schools Direct Candidates. We also offer free places on the Mental Health First Aid training courses we run here and are in discussions with TESLA with regard to running a training session specifically for their Schools Direct candidates. We have also had a number of our trainee teachers on placements at Bohunt, The Petersfield School and Camelsdale. This year we have been involved in the Science week at Camelsdale in March 2018 also hosted a day for their Year 6 at Highfield, in addition we spent the day at Camelsdale working with pupils in Years 4 & 5. These sessions were very well received by the pupils.Within our Keys programme we have an outreach activity known as HighReach. As part of this pupils visit Hollywater and Stepping Stones schools to work with their pupils. A recent block of sessions had our pupils working alongside Stepping Stones pupils in their Maths classes and this collaboration saw the Stepping Stones pupils engage more with the subject matter as they had additional support from our pupils. Music: Highfield is an exam centre for ABRSM and Rock School exams which is used by Camelsdale, Liphook, Hollycombe and Dunshurst Schools. We have links with all of these schools and allow them the HF facilities in order to prepare their students for music examinations. In the Summer of 2018 the school ran The Highfield Highreach Holiday. The Highreach Holiday is a week-long, volunteer-run, residential holiday at Highfield for Moderately and Severely Learning disabled children aged 8-16 years. It was modelled on the Oundle School Mencap Holiday, which has been running successfully for over 30 years. The plan was to give 20 children a week-long residential activity holiday at Highfield. As well as providing them with a wonderful holiday, the week provided a valuable respite for their families, often giving them their only opportunity to holiday away from home. The first HighReach Holiday ran from Sunday 5th to 12th August 2018. This will run again this year 4/8/19-11/8/19.
