Impact Statement
We make our swimming pool available with no charge to three local state primary schools to conduct their own training to ensure their Year 5 and Year 6 pupils are able to swim. They have weekly lessons in one of the three terms each year. We provide a free minibus and driver support to one of the schools shuttling pupils to and from the two schools. Every year, we host a Year 6 maths challenge at the school for local state and independent schools. The challenge is devised by an ex Deputy Head and is run and hosted by the maths department. We also run a Year 4 spelling challenge each year for local state and independent schools. This is, again, devised by the ex Deputy Head and run by the English department. We have a unique Tudor House that was built in the grounds a number of years ago. We host Tudor workshops in the Tudor House every Summer term for local primary schools. These are financed by us. We hold a Children’s Literature Festival at the school every two years. The last one was held on 15 and 16 September 2018. We invited in 24 authors over the two days and held talks, workshops and activity sessions. We invited local primary and secondary schools to attend the sessions. The next festival is 12-13 September 2019 We host regular sporting events for the local primary schools. These include a Year 2 football tournament, a Year 2 athletics afternoon, a Year 3 netball tournament and a Year 4 netball tournament. We have close links with our primary academy in Wiltshire that we helped to set up a few years ago. Two of our staff are on the governing board of the school and give considerable time supporting its development. We also arrange visits for all our staff to the school and invite their staff here for joint training opportunities. We link with Year 6 from the primary academy every year and host special activity days. On these days, we have also been joined by students from our international schools in China. We have also hosted joint STEM days with local primary schools in our area.
