Impact Statement

A Level Partnership with St Gregory’s Catholic College, Bath
Since September 2017, Prior Park College has been in a partnership with St Gregory's Catholic College in Bath for the provision of A Level subjects with marginal uptake in both schools. Currently, Prior Park College students are able to study Sociology at St Gregory's and St Gregory's students may study various combinations of subjects including French, Photography, and Music at Prior Park. 80 St Gregory 6th form students also attended Prior’s Sixth Form Inspire Conference.

Bath Schools Group
Since 2020, Prior Park College has been a member of the Bath Schools Group, in which the Heads of the Maintained and Independent Schools within the city meet to discuss matters of mutual interest and partnership. The Bath Student Parliament, below, was born from these meetings, and there have been collaborations around CPD, liaison with local community safety groups.

Camino Partnership
Prior Park College is a member of the Camino Partnership which is a group of 12 Catholic schools, in and around Bath (within the Clifton Catholic Diocese) providing education, through the state and independent sector, to students ranging from Years 3 to 18.

STEAM Days
During the summer term, Prior Park hosts our well-known STEAM Days, with up to 100 Year 6 students participating on each of two days. Students experience STEAM workshops in Prior Park’s Science labs, take part in an Engineering Challenge and enjoy an inspiring live Science show in our Theatre.

Outreach - Introduction to Tennis
Working with Bath University’s Team Bath Tennis, the College hosts Y5 students from local primary schools across 2 days in the summer term. There are morning and afternoon sessions available, with up to 48 students in each slot.

MEDSOC + UN
Prior Park provides valuable opportunities for interview and application preparation for both potential Oxbridge and Medical students. Prior Park’s Medical Society, for example, provides an annual round of interview practice sessions with a large roster of medical professionals across a number of disciplines. This is open to, and taken up by, students from a large number of local state schools.

Bath Student Parliament
This year, Prior Park hosted the Bath Student Parliament, welcoming approximately 40 students from Ralph Allen, Hayesfield Girls’ School and Beechen Cliff to our Academy Hall.

Prior Park Universities Fair
Students from Ralph Allen attended Prior’s Universities Fair, held in the summer term.

St John’s Partnership collaboration
Working with St John’s Foundation, the University of Bath and Bath Team Netball, Prior Park College held an Inspire Day for over 120 years 5 & 6 girls from seven primary schools in the most deprived areas of Bath and Northeast Somerset. A day of empowering girls through netball; a series of short workshops looking at teamwork and leadership, wellness, netball skills and fitness for life.

Participants were given goodie bags of toiletries and branded hoodies, which the primary schools confirmed they could wear as part of their uniform during the winter, as many of them do not have winter coats.

Sports Centre and facilities
The Sports Centre is used 7 days a week by over 20 different community groups and activity providers (Football, Basketball, Cricket, Netball, Hockey & Birthday Parties.) 3 companies use the indoor swimming pool, providing swimming lessons for over 500 children and adults per week. Bath Scuba Diving Club use the swimming Pool on Wednesday evenings to introduce participants to the sport in a safe and controlled environment.

Bath Astronomy – planned Astronomy Observatory at Prior Park College
The College is seeking to establish an astronomical observatory on site to allow best use of the large telescope the College already owns, as well as to support the scientific curriculum and the activities of its own Astronomical Society. PPC’s Astronomical Society continues to seek the help and advice of Simon Holbeche of Bath Astronomers, and others, to ensure that the proposed facility will become a genuinely open resource for the city of Bath. The aim is to operate the observatory in conjunction with Bath Astronomers (for example to hold public observing evenings), to open the facility for visits and use by others, such as local Primary and Junior Schools, Scout groups, etc.
