Impact Statement

The Swire Chinese Language Centre Edinburgh (SCLCE), a partnership with local state-funded schools James Gillespie’s and Boroughmuir High School, established with the support of the Swire Chinese Language Foundation, has begun to have a real impact on enriching the curriculum of local schools by providing high quality teaching in Chinese and a range of cultural opportunities. During the year some 1,640 children and young people had access to one of the SCLCE programmes, with 55 taking certificated programmes leading to Scottish National Qualifications. Each of those learners is backed by a pledge that they will be supported to at least Higher level, a pledge that no other Chinese learning scheme in the country is able to make. Schools that have benefited from this scheme include Castlebrae High School and Gracemount High School.

Some 1,640 pupils at 5 local state schools had access to Chinese teaching, which they would otherwise not have had, in the year to 31 December 2019.
