Impact Statement

We continue to have a close working relationship with our local academy, where the Principal and Bursar both sit as governors. One initiative was to offer free use of our boarding faciltiies over Easter holidays, so that for a number of days a group of pupils and staff boarded and took part in an intensive GCSE revision programme. This was used to target pupils on the C/D boarderline, where the home environment was considered not to be coducive to private revision. The academy felt this was a very worthwile endeavour that helped the study skills of the pupils.

Every year we also host Science Week, which includes a day of Science and Design workshops with year 5 pupils from local schools. Typically four pupils attend from approximately 25 local primary schools, along with a member of staff. The feeback from schools is very positive, in terms of the lasting enthusiasm for Science this brings.

St Lawrence College offers the chance for children to sit for a scholarship from the age of 7 upwards. In the Junior School, awards of up to 25% off the fees are given for outstanding academic ability.

Senior School scholarships can be offered in Years 7-11 for outstanding all-round ability, academic, sporting or music disciplines, worth up to 25% (for Years 7-10) and 50% (for Year 11) of fees.

Sixth Form academic scholarships can be offered, worth up to 50% of fees. Scholarships are also awarded into the Sixth Form for pupils with outstanding ability in the Arts, Music and Sport.

Bursaries are means-tested and designed to offer financial assistance in exceptional circumstances to lower income households to either start at a school or remain at school if the family’s circumstances change.  If you apply for a bursary you will need to provide the school with comprehensive details of your family’s financial position and be prepared for this to be reviewed at regular intervals.
