Impact Statement

The school enjoys thriving performance arts provision and, as part of this, joins a number of local state schools in taking part in the annual Shakespeare for Schools Festival, which culminates in high-profile performances at the Lawrence Batley Theatre.

As proud members of the Pennine Sports Partnerships, the school competes on a weekly basis against a range of state schools, in sports ranging from netball and football to athletics, gymnastics and cricket.

The School hosts a range of community events over the course of the academic year - importantly, local residents are invited to enjoy the school facilities alongside current parents and pupils. Events include our Summer Garden Party, Fireworks Evening, Christmas Fair and Stay and Play sessions.

Scholarships are provided in recognition of outstanding performance and a demonstration of exceptional ability, be that in the field of academia, the performing arts, the creative arts, and sporting achievement.

These are conditional upon a pupil maintaining a high standard of performance and a commitment to contribute fully to school life at HGS.

The award of all scholarships will be dependent on candidates achieving an appropriately high standard of performance in the Scholarship Assessment papers, appropriate references as required, and the candidate’s performance at the scholarship interview with senior members of staff.

We offer a variety of scholarships, including Academic, Sports, Music, Performing Arts (Dance and/or Drama) and Creative Arts Scholarships.

Scholarships are awarded at the start of Year 7. However, they may be available at the Headteacher’s discretion at any point throughout the Senior School in order to recognise outstanding performance.
