Volunteering at West London Welcome Migrant & Refugee Centre

Partner: West London Welcome Migrant & Refugee Centre
Partner type: Community Group
Project category: Volunteering

West London Welcome is a safe social space where refugees, asylum seekers and other migrants will find warmth, shelter and companionship. The staff offer a wide range of support services, classes, and activities. Latymer Upper lower sixth students assist with these, and they have been invaluable in delivering IT support to clients on mobiles, iPads and laptops. They also contribute by cleaning, chatting with clients, and joining in classes.

Services include:

English classes; IT assistance; book club; exercise, including yoga and meditation; art; knitting...

Advice from lawyers on immigration and housing

Advice and signposting to other services on employment, further education, and psychological support

A hot lunch. Refugee chefs from Welcome Kitchen serve everyone free, delicious food at lunchtime.

Aims of the project

The centre aims to reduce the isolation people often feel while living in chaotic housing arrangements and with little structure in their lives.
