Primary Schools Cross Country Championships

Partner: Bradfield College Primary Group
Partner type: Community Group
Project category: Sporting Partnerships

Annual Cross Country Championship taking place at Bradfield College.  Approximately 250 pupils take part with help from Bradfield pupils and staff.

Aims of the project

Provide primary school children with the opportunity to compete in an organised sporting competition against other local schools. This encourages good links between the schools and a high quality track for the pupils to race on. The pupils experience a well organised event with junior and senior competitions for both boys and girls with all runners receiving prizes.

Background and goals

This has been established for the last 9 years.  The main reason for setting up this project was to strengthen links between the College and the wider community.

We use 10 staff and 20 pupils for this event.  The College grounds are used, together with the Stunt Pavilion which is used as a welcome area and spectator platform.

250 plus pupils take part in physical activity and the hope is to encourage a percentage to continue in this sport.

Pupil involvement

250 primary pupils aged between 8-11 years old, mixed gender.

Frequency and duration

Annual - 5 hours.
