National Modern Foreign Languages (NMFL) SCITT

Partner: Silverdale School, Sheffield
Partner type: Maintained School
Project category: Academic

The new national School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) courses are aimed at new graduates and career changers. The package that is offered to the trainees, including the option to train at independent and state schools, makes this new course a very favourable option.

Aims of the project

There are three national hubs, with Dulwich College acting as the lead school for the London Hub.  Hub schools coordinate other interested schools in the area and facilitate interviews, quality control and professional development.

Background and goals

Dulwich College is looking for London schools to join the London Hub. Each partnership needs a mix of state and independent schools in order to offer the requisite training placements.

Resources

Dulwich College facilitates the London Hub which includes recruiting schools and trainee teachers plus organising placements.  Trainees have to be supervised during placements and feedback / mentoring provided.

Pupil involvement

Pupils are taught by the trainee teachers under supervision.

Frequency and duration

Each trainee does one placment at an independent school and one in a state maintained school.
