Aims of the project
The sessions will aim to develop problem solving skills and encourage students to tackle problems beyond the confines of the A level syllabus. The classes are primarily for U6th students but keen L6th students are welcome. We have students who attend from a wide range of schools in the Birmingham area and we try to encourage the pupils to work collaboratively with pupils from other schools.
Background and goals
KEHS has worked extensively with a range of secondary school's in the West Midlands to support students from from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds.
Our Maths Master Classes are one of a number of community projects with which we have been involved. We worked with Nishkam High School throughout 2012-2014 assisting with curriculum design and the support of their most able pupils. The school received an excellent Ofsted inspection and was rated as ‘outstanding’ in all areas; KEHS was named in the report for its contribution to the school in terms of supporting pupil learning. We also have a Physics partnership with KE Five Ways.
Frequency and duration
In total we run 30 maths Master Classes each lasting for approximately 2 hours; all the classes take place on Thursdays between 4.00pm-6.00pm. Full details are published on our Teaching School Website.
