Partner: Heber Primary School, Lordship Lane, London
Partner type: Maintained School
Project category: Drama

Heber Primary School, a local School in East Dulwich hired the theatre at Alleyn’s for two days in July to rehearse and perform their end-of-term show Bugsy Malone.

Resources

The venue was hired free of charge to the local school. Alleyn’s duty management and theatre management were on hand throughout the hire, to assist where required. A production meeting was held in advance of the hire with the Theatre Manager and Heber School where any technical questions could be answered and logistics discussed. All technical equipment required for the show was provided free of any cost to the Heber.

During the evening performance a bar was run by Alleyn’s School and the proceeds made were donated back to the school to help pay for necessary staffing of sound and lighting operations and theatre ushers for the production.

Impact

“The opportunity to use the theatre was very important to us.The children thoroughly benefited from the experience in terms of giving them an insight into future opportunities for music and drama at secondary school. The confidence we saw in the children was fantastic and the parents were very impressed by their talent.”
