Hampton School ISSP GCSE Classics Twilight Project

This project has been running for the last four years and aims to offer keen students from our partnership schools the opportunity to learn Latin to a high level. Lessons take place weekly after school, and have proved very popular with boys and girls from several of our local maintained secondary schools. Pupils sit a national examination at the end of the course.

Aims of the project

The aims of the Independent - State School partnership is to share expertise and to offer students a chance to excel in a variety of subjects. 

Background and goals

Latin is no longer taught in most maintained schools and Hampton offered this opportunity to our local partner schools. The first set of GCSE examinations was taken in July 2016 with strong results.


Hour-long lessons are held at Hampton School on a weekly basis, starting at 4.00pm. The lessons are run by classics teachers from Hampton School and the resources are funded by the School


Pupils taken a national examination at the conclusion of the three-year course. 

Pupil involvement

Pupils are between 12 and 15 years old and both boys and girls are involved from our local maintained secondary schools.
