Careers Fair Partnership

Partner: Theale Green School, Reading
Partner type: Maintained School
Project category: Academic

Bradfield College organise and run an annual careers fair for the Sixth-Form at the school.  It was decided to open this event up to local schools annually offerin their sixth-form pupils with the oppourtunity to meet Universities, Employers and Professionals from various industries.

Aims of the project

Provide oppourtunity for local schools to attend a careers fair within Berkshire

Lack of careers fairs locally for state sector to attend and therefore a lack of links to business, industry and educational establishments beyond school.

Beneficiaries are local state secondary students within the sixth-form and Bradfield College students.

Background and goals

We have existing links with various schools within Berkshire through our outreach activities.  When the careers fair was setup it made sense to then offer the oppourtunity for those schools to attend a free local careers fair at Bradfield.

Head of Careers (Horizons) at Bradfield College identified the capacity to offer it to local schools.  She then contacted the schools and invited them to attend.

Use of Bradfield College as a venue for the event

Use of non-teaching Bradfield Horizons staff to oversee the event and welcome schools/students to the fairs.

Resources included guest speakers, professionals, venue provision and also maintenance staff at Bradfield who help to prepare the venue for the event.

Qualitative assessment is only realistic assessment and should take the form of a qiestionaire post the event to staff and students of the attending schools to see if the found it useful, if it helped to make decisions about career paths and university etc.

Quantitative assessment can only really take the form of counting how many students from external schools attended the event.
