Academic Enrichment Day for Year 5 Students at Local Primary Schools

Woldingham School invited students from Woodlea Primary School, St Francis' Catholic Primary School and St John's Catholic Primary School to join them for a full day of academic enrichment.  The aim of this event is to introduce students to subjects that are taught at secondary school to inspire intellectual curiosity and to share Woldingham's teaching and school resources.  A carousel of lessons covered areas that the primary studentss may not receive as part of the primary curriculum; Art, Science, Design & Technology, Spanish, German and Sport - all taught by subject specialists.  The sessions were designed to be highly interactive, fun and tailored to Year 5 pupils.  The day culminated with a performance of Woldingham School's Year 7 Drama production.

Aims of the project

The aim of the Enrichment Day is to share teaching expertise and school resources with the local community and to inspire students approaching secondary school to further develop their intellectual curiosity and inspire them to develop as creative thinkers.

Background and goals

The relationship between the schools is established and opportunities to share facilities and expertise are arranged as often as possible.


A range of school resources were used including laboratories, Art classrooms, Design & Technology classrooms, sports and Drama facilities.  Teaching staff and assistants ran the sessions with further assistance from Sixth Formers and Year 10 students.


Very positive feedback was received from the primary school teachers involved and the inspired students.  Woldingham's staff and students fedback on their raised awareness of the community and ability to give back to local schools.

Pupil involvement

120 Year 5 students, both male and female, attended and 40 Year 10 students from Woldingham acted as helpers and mentors.

This event will be held annually.
