Lord Wandsworth College and Costello School CCF

Since September 2015, Costello School (a coeducational secondary school with academy status in Basingstoke) has joined with Lord Wandsworth College's CCF, bringing 16 cadets over every week, along with two members of staff. The cadets slotted in easily, they follow the same training programme and are mixed into the different military sections. It is a partnership of great mutual benefit - the CCF has brought the two groups together sharing challenge, enjoyment and learning new skills whilst wearing the same uniform. Many of the Costello cadets came on their first training exercise in October 2015 and they had the chance to go flying with the RAF in February 2016.  Over the Easter holidays the combined group embarked on the Easter Adventure Training Camp in the Lake District where the pupils enjoyed climbing, caving, walking, navigational skills and overnight camping.  The arrival of Storm Katie, however, tested the group’s character attributes, especially when climbing Ingleborough in rain, wind and hail storms.
