Year 5 Science Challenge
Richard Cobden's Y5 pupils were invited to our hall for the entire day, where the pupils were challenged to build a vehicle with the materials provided. Their aim was to make their vehicles move on their own.
Aims
The aims were to develop the children's understanding of physics and to work collaboratively to achieve a shared goal.
Critical factors for success:
- teamwork
- use of appropriate resources
- teaching from our science lead
Background
Our science lead led a similar activity in our school's STEM club and realised that the pupils felt inspired to be engineers, so thought that this could be an excellent opportunity to teach and inspire others.
That's when we invited Richard Cobden to join us for a day to learn alongside the Y5 pupils.
Resources
The workshop took place in our school hall for the entire day, with our school resources.
