Southwark Police Cadet Christmas Tree Appeal 2016

Southwark Police Cadets host Christmas event at the MCT at Alleyn's theatre for local children in foster care.

Background

The Christmas Tree Appeal, now in its successful fourth year, was the brain-child of Commissioner Bernard Hogan Howe. He proposed the idea that every child in care in every borough of London should receive a Christmas present from the Metropolitan Police.

In 2015 the appeal received over 11,000 presents across London and over £9,000 kindly donated by the public helping to provide presents to children who may otherwise not have received one last Christmas. In 2016 the appeal hoped to have done even better.

Alleyn's helped the appeal by offering its theatre and staff in the lead-up to the event and on the day of the event itself.

On 19th December 2016 the MCT at Alleyn's was host to the Metropolitan Police, Southwark Police Cadets and special guest Father Christmas. Gifts were donated to 85 children in care in Southwark on the evening. The remaining 135 presents were delivered to those unable to make the event by Southwark Children's Services.

Alleyn’s will continue to help the appeal by offering its venue and staff, and look forward to working with the Southwark Police and Cadets again in December 2017
