SHINE
Wakefield Girls’ has been running SHINE - Serious Fun on a Saturday - since 2015.
SHINE is an opportunity to invite small groups of pupils into Wakefield Girls’ High School for a Saturday morning of 16 diverse academic sessions over an 8 week period. Sessions typically include topics such as DT, Art, Baking, Solar System, Textiles, Latin, French, Chemistry, Music, Geography, RS, English, and Maths.
SHINE culminates with a celebratory event for participating pupils, their families and their Headteachers. This is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of all students before a lunch is served. Pupils are honoured with certificates and personalised scrolls.

Staff at Wakefield Girls’ and brother school, Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, are involved in running this event. Year 12 students from the schools also play a crucial part in delivering the sessions. School facilities are used.

The pupils are all from Year 5 and around 50 pupils are involved in the event. Families of participating pupils are welcomed to a celebration event at the end of the 16 sessions.
