Peter Pan and Pirates Day 2013

Boys and girls from Year 5 were invited for an action packed day that includes maths, literacy and logic puzzles based around the story of Peter Pan.

Aims

The event aimed to foster team building and problem solving skills rather than academic ability, designed to promote independent thinking as part of a fun filled day.

As part of the day, we were able to surprise attending children with a trip to a matinee pantomine performance of Peter Pan. Working in partnership with school staff, children whom never experience live theatre were selected to attend. This widened cultural and enrichment opportunities to some disadvantaged children.

Background

Following from our first large partner event last year, visiting staff expressed an interest in future events at NGHS. Particualrly for children whom do not have many opportunities within school (due to poor academic performance), or due to financial struggles at home.

HSBC kindly granted us funding to run this opportunity with local children.

Resources

All resources were designed by Miss Taylor and made available to visiting staff on the day.

Pupil Involvement

More than 200 boys and girls in Year 5.
