Inter-Generational Poetry Project in conjunction with Friend In Deed
Norwich School has been working with local Social Enterprise Friend In Deed to help combat loneliness in the older generations by inviting primary school children to visit their local care home. During the summer term, pupils from Drayton Primary School and Norwich Lower School visited their respective local care homes to be paired up with residents. The groups were tasked with writing poetry around the theme of "kindness", and were asked what friendship meant to them as individuals.
The aim of the project was to help foster friendship across the generations and to build links between primary schools and the older residents of their communities.
Norwich School has been working with Friend In Deed on a number of projects this year, including organising musical performances in care homes and a Dementia Awareness Day for pupils, staff and parents.
Norwich school organised the project in conjunction with Friend In Deed.
There was a vastly positive response from both pupils and residents, with one resident quoting "it's the best activity we have ever done... when she put her hand up and said "high five", I really felt worthwhile. It felt like we had acheived something".
Primary school pupils were involved from Drayton Primary School and Norwich Lower School.
Norwich School has plans to continue working with Friend In Deed in their mission to combat loneliness amongst the generations. Future plans include an Inter-Generational Sports Day to be held during the summer term hosted by Norwich School.
