Chair of Governors at St James’ Catholic High School
Withington’s Senior Examinations Officer, Susan Breckell, is the Chair of Governors at St James’ Catholic High School in Cheadle Hulme.
Susan is a parent of pupils at St James’, and became a governor of the school in October 2013 and was nominated for the role of Chair of Governors two years ago. In this position, Susan coordinates the Board of Governors and works in close communication with the Headteacher. The Board of Governors oversees the school’s budget, its strategic planning, and the appointment of new staff members.
Withington’s Senior Leadership Team support Susan in her role, and enables her to spend time at St James’ as needed in order to fulfil her duties as Chair.
Susan’s enthusiasm and commitment to education shine through in both her role at Withington and at St James’, where over 800 pupils benefit from her governance. She attends meetings throughout the year and actively supports the school in events such as Parents’ Evenings and Open Days.
As Senior Examinations Officer at Withington, Susan has excellent insight into the workings of the school; insight which proves invaluable in her governance of St James’, enhancing the governing advice she provides.
There are 800 pupils and 100 staff at St James' and the governors set the strategic vision of the school, oversee the spending and hold the Headteacher and Senior Leadership team to account. As Chair of Governors our staff member liaises closely with the Headteacher and coordinate the running of the Board.
Susan has been Chair of Governors since November 2016. Her current role occupies approximately three hours per week.
